I don't know if you still playing that particular quest but there is a way to get the tree sap without having to fight the Spriggans. All you have to do is talk to the guy at the temple I can't remember who he is but he can get the tree set for you without having fights Spriggans he's either in the temple or he's outside by the tree. Guess not, me the first time I did it; sniped them with bow and arrows. I didn't learn it's not a good idea to level up your sneak I was at level 12 equipped with full armor and still got beat by a unarmed opponent and I was like what the hell?
Although, those glorified brownies have another thing coming if the think they'll stop me from getting that Tree Sap for the Temple of Kynareth.....
